If you are looking for an exciting career in Law Enforcement and want to be hired by a very progressive and professional department please look over the requirements and attend our next police officer testing date.


  • Must be United States Citizen.
  • Must be 21 to 35 years of age. (Military Veterans have extensions per state law)
  • Must possess High School Diploma or GED.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.





The Lincoln Police Department conducts testing for the position of police officer every 2 years.  The current new hire list expires September 14, 2017.

Testing Process

Physical Test - ILETSB POWER Test

Although the ILETSB POWER Test is used for admission to an academy, the Lincoln Police and Fire Commission uses only one standard for all ages and sex.  Testing standards will be provided at the orientation, but consist of the following tests.  If you meet the standards for your age for the POWER test requirments then passing our physical test should be no problem.


  • Sit ups
  • 1 ½ Mile Run
  • Bench press
  • Sit and Reach


Written Test

Oral Interview

All passing applicants will be scored based on the written test and military points.  To be hired by the police department applicants will be have to pass the following:

  • Background Investigation
  • Psychological Test
  • Polygraph
  • Drug Testing/Medical Exam

Lateral Entry - If you are currently employed by another law enforcement agency inside of Illinois for the past 3 years, you may qualify for Lateral Entry.  You can complete an application and submit it to the Lincoln Police Department.  The current Lateral Police Test expires May 13, 2016.

The Lincoln Police Department now utilizes Appriss for collecting traffic crash information and submitting to the State of Illinois. Appriss provides for those involved with the crash to receive copies of reports.

The Lincoln Police Department reponds to all Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.  In doing so we retain the right under Illinois State Law to maintain the privacy of individuals.
